Checchi Elected WMIA President

Giordano Checchi, CEO of SCM Group, was elected to a two-year term as president of the Woodworking Machinery Industry Association in May. Checchi took office during the 2005 Woodworking Industry Conference.

Checchi feels that the future of the North American woodworking industry lies in the development and use of new technologies and that WMIA members'

equipment can make major contributions. He outlined six goals to which he will commit his WMIA Presidency. DETAILS

Congress Preserves Business Relationship Exemption for Faxes

On July 9 President Bush signed the Junk Fax Prevention Act of 2005 into law. The legislation restores pre-2003 rules for sending unsolicited commercial faxes thus ending the long running debate over whether a business can send unsolicited advertisement faxes to a recipient with which the business had an "established business relationship."  DETAILS

Lowering the Bar on A/R

It is not stretching things to say that in most distribution organizations, across virtually every line of trade, credit is not viewed as a service, but as a necessary evil. Most WMIA members are giving up profit dollars by being more conservative than they should be with regard to accounts receivable. The economics of credit clearly favor a somewhat more aggressive credit policy rather than a tighter one. DETAILS

Hermance Sponsors Race Car

Hermance Machine Co. sponsors a race car on the Scale Racing League Circuit.

Driven by Blair Frye, a Hermance technician, the car recently captured the PA SRL Championship first place Finish for the 2004 series.

Although small in size, the cars reach speeds of up to 90 mph on half-mile oval tracks located in Virginia, New York and Pennsylvania.
