Stiles Acquires Howard S. Twichell Co.

Stiles Machinery Inc. acquired the Howard S. Twichell Co. of Addison, Texas.

The synergies created by merging these two strong companies will enable Stiles to better serve their customers in the Texas and Oklahoma markets with a strong service network and a world-class product offering. Together, Twichell and Stiles have the resources necessary to grow and become a stronger, more efficient and effective customer-focused organization, required to remain competitive in today’s marketplace.

The Howard S. Twichell Co. has been a family-owned and operated business since 1966, striving to represent the best quality manufacturers of solid wood and panel processing machinery, tooling and supplies as well as parts, financing and trade-in services. Effective July 1, 2007 the ownership will change, but the Twichell name and staff will remain delivering a consultative sales approach that assists customers by identifying the best total solutions for their business.

20-20 Pattern Systems Will Also Focus on Small Cabinetmakers

When 20-20 Technologies acquired Pattern Systems International in January 2007, the acquisition fuelled the two companies’ collective talent to develop brand new software for small cabinetmakers - 20-20 Design for Manufacturing CNC (20-20 DFMcnc).

20-20 DFMcnc extends 20-20 Technologies’ industry recognized 20-20 Design software to cabinetmakers’ CNC machines - in a fraction of the time, and at a fraction of the cost of any other software on the market today.

“We looked at statistics from various sources and saw that of the 50,000 cabinet manufacturers listed, 29,872 had less than 10 employees,” says Andrew Allu, Sales Manager 20-20 Pattern Systems. “We know that a large part of that small cabinet manufacturing market needs better software to make them more efficient. Once 20-20 Technologies and Pattern Systems joined forces we were able to start developing products for that clientele.”

20-20 DFMcnc brings clear advantages to small shops. Software that comes with most CNC saws can take, on average, 30 seconds to program each part. . If there are 25 cabinets in a kitchen and four machined parts per cabinet then there are 200 parts in a Kitchen. That’s close to 2 hours of programming. The real value of 20-20 DFMcnc is that it delivers all machine files relating to those 200 parts to the machine automatically – in 10 to 15 seconds and that means cabinet makers save huge amounts of time in preparing manufacturing information in every job.

DFMcnc can generate part geometry in several different formats (DXF, CID3, AScii or sheet DXF) for several industry standard CAM solutions. Plus you can create your own parametric drilling programs for every part. 20-20 DFMcnc also comes loaded with common manufacturing files so customers don’t have to start from scratch. And it works in both point-to-point and nesting manufacturing environments making it easy to choose which option works best for you.

Demos of 20-20 DFMcnc (Design for Manufacturing for CNC) will be featured in the 20-20 Technologies Road Show over the months of August, September and October across 14 cities in the US and Canada. Contact 20-20 Technologies at 1-866- 698- 2020 or go to www.2020technologies.com to check out the date and place of the Road Show closest to you. See for yourself that 20-20 Pattern Systems has developed a new state-of-the-art software product that is squarely focused on developing better software products for cabinet manufacturers.

Biesse to Launch Event October 10-13

Continuing to maintain a high profile in the global woodworking industry, Biesse America recently announced plans for “BIESSEiNSIDE,” an international event to be held October 10 – 13, 2007 at the headquarters of parent company Biesse Group, S.p.A. in Pesaro, Italy.

Billed as an “open door on the world of woodworking processes and technology,” the four-day event will feature technical workshops and guided tours around Biesse’s 970,000 square foot Pesaro production facility. While open to all, the event is geared primarily to clients of Biesse’s Systems Division, who are engaged in commercial construction, institutional casework and store fixtures, as well as window, door and office furniture manufacturing. Biesse will provide transportation and lodging for North American clients traveling to Italy for the event.

Highlights of the event will include a presentation by European home furnishings giant and Biesse client IKEA Group. Representatives from IKEA will discuss the company’s “Case History,” detailing its winning formula. Consorzio LegnoLegno, a European consortium of more than 600 wood and furniture sector businesses, will lead a discussion on a 2007 study on solid wood window and door applications in the Italian market. In addition, Biesse plans to unveil a new 32,000 -square foot showroom, where 100 live demonstrations will be held on a variety of wood processing machines. Planners advise early registration, as seating at seminars and workshops is limited.

In conjunction with the BIESSEiNSIDE event, clients will have the opportunity to tour some of northern Italy’s most advanced woodworking facilities, and network with senior representatives.

Already eliciting an enthusiastic response, the BIESSEiNSIDE event is the latest in a series of indicators that European manufacturing remains strong in general, and that in particular, Biesse is leading its sector. At the recent AWFS (Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers) Fair, a major industry event, Biesse came away with $6,406,382 in sales, as well as a top award. In June, Biesse purchased approximately 14 acres of land for the planned expansion of its Charlotte headquarters. Also this year, the company acquired AGM Glass Machinery Inc., North America’s leading manufacturer of glass and stone fabrication equipment. Biesse attributes its success to an ongoing emphasis on high-tech solutions and unparalleled customer service.
